Hi all,

I need some help setting up my SSD/HDD setup.

RIght now i have:
128gb M4 ssd (os drive)
2 x 320gb hdd (raid 1) I keep stuff that i dont want to lose here.
480gb hdd - my primary drive where i install most programs

What I want to do:
256gb ssd (os and cache drive)
2 x 2th hdds (primary and security drive - RAID 1.)

Currently I know I cant cache my hdd since I have a raid array and a regular HDD. My understanding is that once I move to the ssd and raid array without the extra hdd the option to "accelerate" should be available.

My question is that what kind of things do I need to make sure I look into when getting an ssd for caching.

I know it is important to have TRIM operating. is there anything special I need to look at?

Any general tips or pitfalls to lookout for would be appreciated.

So, you are buying a 256gb SSD to put a 20gb OS install file on it, and cache?..................... That would be the biggest waste of money ever. Put os, games, programs on the SSD, all the storage bs on the HD's.

This.

If the OS is on the SSD, there is precisely zero point in setting up a SRT or Corsair SSD type cache partition.

good points. I guess I was still thinking too much from the perspective of how my system is currently setup. I already have my os drive filled with my os and programs and have 12gb of programs on my 480gb drive. That puts me at about 130gb between os and programs. With a bigger ssd I should have no problem putting all my programs on the ssd and just moving all my videos, movies, games, and pictures to the other drives.
 
RAID1 is not security, do backups.

And with 256GB + 128GB SSDs you should be good for a lot of stuff.

I do both :D Pictures/videos of the little ones are priceless.

I use ~430gb right now between my 2 hard drives and my raid array.
