Hi All

Just put a new ocz vertex 2e 120gb ssd in my machine, straight swap out for my old 6400 aaks hdd.

I cloned the old drive moved on to the ssd, realigned, setup windows 7 etc, and all working fine.

The whole time i was using default bios settings, as soon as i begin to oc again (i was running 3.4ghz on q6600) - the ssd stops and waits for ages at the windows logo (win7 is still moving around etc but no hdd activity light). If i go back to default settings, it goes stright in super fast.

If i swap the ssd back out for my old hdd, it goes straight in with any of the oc'd settings (same ones the ssd is failing on).

I have pci freq set to 100 - all locked down.. the SSD seems to prevent me overclocking :( !

Anyone have any ideas?

You probably don't want to hear this, but I would try a fresh install on the SSD to make sure it's not something being carried over from the HDD install. I've never seen or heard about a SSD limiting overclocking.

Dammit, beaten again....

Yup, no way to tell for sure until you install fresh. Only way to prove your claims.

Yeah, deploying an image to an SSD is not a good idea. Clean install it and I bet yoru problems will go away fast.

I read somewhere it was a no no to clone to an ssd.

Only when coming from a HDD, and even then it will sometimes still work. I've cloned from a HDD to a SSD before and didn't have an issue, but OP is so a fresh install is the first place to look in order to fix.

thanks for the replys, i kinda figured that would be the case - i actually have the image of my old hdd and the hdd its self sitting there so i had already started rebuilding the win7 install - installing updates atm, and it appears that the reinstall seems to have helped a lot - will update the thread once everything is on and ive had a bit of time to push the system, but a mild 600 mhz oc during the install has been fine... plenty of headroom for tomorrows fun and games.

thanks again!

I can vouche for this, I had issues for months of where i cloned my Os from my WD 500gb to my intel 40gb ssd, and I had to hit the reset button EVERY bootup in order to get past the damn LOADING OPERATING SYSTEM........ Screen. I thought it was memory, failing ssd, bad mobo, power drawdown, everything but the os.

Do yourself a favor and reinstall the OS. Sorry to be blunt but, trust me it is worth it.

well... just after i think its all good - a week after installing win7 x64 fresh (with mild oc to 3.2 working absolutely fine from the word go after reinstall) - its now doing exactly the same thing as when i had it cloned across.

oc off, boots fine, oc on, pauses at windows logo (with logo moving in background, like its not crashed, it just doesnt load any files beyond that point).

Took a look on the ocz site, according to them you can download firmware 1.24 but they said to check mine with crystal disk info, that says im already on 1.25 ; (

cant find any info for updating the ich10r, maybe drivers or something???

If you ask me it's the memory and/or memory controller. The fault has to lie there.

Try a same cpu OC but with lower NB overclock. That's where I'd start. Obviously lower mem overclock as well.

You might wanna try bumping up the SB shipset voltage as well a notch. An SSD will tax that southbridge way harder than a normal hard disk will.

I recently did a fresh install on 2 Vertez 2 60GB RAID 0 with W7 64 bit and haven't had any problems with my over clocks. I did however do all the installing with my over clock in effect at 4.2Ghz.
