Recently I upgraded to SDD drives when I upgraded my computer and was really hoping for better performance than I'm getting. Obviously I'm no guru with hard drives I did the research I felt I needed to and purchased under my price range. Now the strange thing I see in HDTune are illustrated in these images.

Now one says ATA on the left hand side of the drive in the drive selection menu at the top so I'm not sure what that is about as I have double and triple checked the connection on the board to make sure I'm plugged into the proper port. Is this possibly just a firmware issue that lists it like this?

I'm guessing this performance is in range where it should be? I can't really find a difinitive answer but I really don't feel like it is and feel I should be getting more out of these drives. However on that same note if there is a better drive someone would recommend I'm not against making another upgrade just because at this point the Video Card and SDD are probably the only bottlenecks on my system and I'd like to get away from any possible bottlenecks.
 
Try AS SSD or Crystal Disk Mark. Your graphs are only measuring STR which although hyped all the time is not a good measure of application performance since applications generally do not read or write in very large chunks.

Ok I have that installed and obviously know nothing about his software is there a benchmark hiding that I'm too blind to see of any information I can provide?
 
More information please, like motherboard, cpu, etc. Also, are you seeing poor performance in real world stuff or just wanting the benches to be higher?
 
My Agility 3 also does this in HDtune. Starts out around 150-200mbps then surges up to 400mbps+. If you increase the benchmark block size, you will see much better results. Try128k+

As real world performance goes however, I could not be happier. The windows 7 logo doesn't even fully form (the system hits the desktop before the "window" logo forms). Loading large maps in BF3 is also night and day over my WD black HDD.

What i'm boiling this down to is: don't invest too much effort into benchmark numbers, especially on a budget SSD. I couln't give a damn what the numbers say as long as my system stays as snappy as it is.
 
Are you in AHCI ?

Your homework really made you buy OCZ Agility drives ?

Is the drive on the left the OS drive ?

Mobo - ASRock Extreme6
CPU - i7 3930k
RAM - 16g 2133 gskill

Applications, Games & Fraps it really just doesn't feel like I'm getting as good of performance as I should be. I expected to be able to game+fraps and experience far less of a performance hit.

Hey, hey, hey don't just skim the post and actually read it. I did the research I felt I needed to and purchased under my price range I wasn't expecting top of the line performance however I am expecting a touch more then I feel I'm getting.

Yes I double checked the port and AHCI being enabled and not IDE.

Another thing to do when running benchmarks is to temporarily disable your antivirus software. Most of the times when you get the high and low sawtooth patterns, it is some app getting in the middle of the tests. So your benchmark writes a block to disk (high peak) your AV software tries to analyze it (low peak) and over and over again.
 
Exactly, but he skimmed my third question.

Also, I never used fraps but I always thought it would cause low performance no matter what.
