SSD performance loss?

A few months back, my SSD got a solid 7.3 on Windows Experience Index.

Now I ge a mere 5.9. What gives? Is there anything I can do to improve it's performance?
 
model?
usage patterns (how often do you use the computer and for what)?
is your SATA controller set to AHCI mode, legacy (IDE), or RAID mode (you can find this in the bios)?
 
Could be a number of things. Did you do a straight install of Windows 7 to the SSD, or did you clone it over? Is TRIM Enabled? Have you updated your firmware? What brand, model and capacity is your drive? How full is it currently?
 
Model is OCZ Vertex PLUS
Use it as my main HD, play games sometimes and watch movies. Average of 2-4hrs per day

Currently set to IDE. What's the difference between IDE and AHCI?
 
AHCI is the way the computer moves data to and from memory and is MUCH more efficient than the older IDE compatibility layer on most motherboards. It is the way you want to go, but your system will likely bluescreen on your next reboot. There are a few quick ways to get around that, do a search here on the board for IDE to AHCI.
In addition, you want to make sure you have updated to the latest firmware for your drive. PLEASE make a full backup of your data BEFORE you apply the update (Just in Case). Lastly, if you installed Win7 more than say a year ago, you might just want to back up your data and do a fresh install of the OS and your apps, you won't believe how much crap can accumulate on your drive in that time.
 
Awesome guys and girls. Just changed to AHCI and it went up to 7.2. Will also do a reinstallation of Windows, had it installed about a year ago so it's about time.

How can you tell if you got AHCI cooking on your system? My only "benchmark" is that full-scale "the works" Frap movies don't play with crap when played from my regular harddrive but play all but 100 percent smooth on the SSD drive. By the way the SSD drive was the one unexpected benefit I got when I was putting my system together that I didn't know would be. I was SOOO on the fence about purchasing it and was balking at the price but man was I so wrong. One of the best "afterthought" purchases made.
 
I saw it in BIOS. Just see what SATA Controller is set to, IDE or AHCI. Could be RAID, but doubt it.

My BIOS had the information under Storage Configuration. I just searched on google for "ide to ahci" and used a few steps to change to AHCI, since mine was set to IDE.
