That is just 1 data point and not statistically meaningful. Now if you had 2 hundred thousand SandForce SSDs and they all worked for 2 years I would be impressed..
I can't agree with OCZ bad reputation, got one vertex3 120gb in my laptop working for almost a year by now, no problems at all, only the performance seems to be a bit lower than it it was at the begining. I also have two vertex3 60gb in two workstations working 24/7 and also no problems at all. And beleive me I do use them heavily as a local storage for virtual machines and in software development (more writes than reads).
Regarding the topic, nowadays i would take at least 120gb, 256gb has a good capacity to price factor imho, but it depends on what you actually do, anyways as a "system disk" once you get it you won't go back to spindles![]()
I will also disagree with the ocz bad rap. Ive used an ocz vertex 2 180gb 3.5" for a year and a half in a rig that gets heavy use and probably under a hundred hours total being powered down. Never a hiccup. Though i did have a 60 die on me, they sent a replacement stat.
Maybe i haven't used enough of them to feel like they're any more prone to problems than regular hard drives or other ssd's. I guess YMMV applies ..
Between you two it looks like 5 ocz drives and one of those was a 60gb that died, did I read that right? 1 in 5 dead is a tiny sample size but not good either.
I have had dozens of ocz drives (I have ~600 users and almost all of them have an ssd of some sort now) and numerous dead ones. Of the five brands we have (intel, corsair, crucial, samsung and ocz) only the ocz drives have ever flat out died (8 of them). The M4's all had to have the firmware updated when they hit the 5200 hour bug but none of them have actually died. I still have 40gb x25-m's out there from when they were first released, most in raid0 arrays to keep up with windows bloat. Because of this thread, I went to the dead hard drive storage room and there are no SSD's other than the 8 ocz's.

Logical arguments will get you nowhere in an SSD thread.
I would go for 256gb at minimum, IMO.
Get a ton of cheap RAM too and make a RAMDisk for all your temp files!

I have a samsung 830 128gig sdd with half the space used. I could easily put half a dozen games on it if I wanted.
I think the early ssd adopters are used to paying around the pricepoint the 256gig costs hence reccomending that size.
