Hello everyone,

I want to get a ssd for os and hdd for storage.

As far as i know that controller is important for performance and long-term being unproblematic.For me, reliable and most important one is steady state performance that ssd is still perform like fresh even it is full of data.At first I was considering of buying OCZ Vector 256Gb.But its too expensive.I heard that sandforce is a little bit problematic.(fix me If I'm wrong). That's why I only add intel which has sandforce because of I have some researched intel use their own firmware on sandforce chip and they did many test on it.So that's why I don't add other brands which use sandforce such as kingston etc.

So my options are;
Intel 520/335 series, Ocz neutron/neutron gtx, samsung 840 pro.(maybe sandisk because of marvell?)

Which one can you recommend for reliable and long term perform same way even full of data?

Secondly,
I want to get 3TB hdd for storage (movies, games and some iso's)

my options are;
WD Black,Red,Green,AV-GP and Seagate desktop.hdd.15, 7200.14 barracuda and SV35 series.

I know that WD black 5 year warranty.But many people say that it is a little bit noisy and also I will use it for secondary/storage drives thats why I don't think to prefer black.I would buy wd red but someone say that it has tler feature and it is suitable for nas so using on desktop can create some problems?and one more question.. buying two red and setting raid configration might be more reliable instead of having one green?

Thank you so much.

I'm no expert but OCZ don't have a good rep. For reliability get a drive that has been out for a bit, than you will know if it is reliable, some drives have had issues. Don't fill up the SSD, it will last longer. Endurance also depends on the type of memory they use. Personally I would recommend samsung, intel or crucial. It doesn't need to be the newest, I would go for more space. I think I heard you should try to keep it under (80% full)

For the 3tb: Don't go green if you want to put games on it and red is for RAID. I recommend getting a seagate or a WD black. Red won't create problems as far as I know, it is just not suitable as and costs more.2 drives if used in RAID for parity will protect you in the even that one fails.

I would go as big as your budget allows on the SSD to cover all OS/Programs/Games, Samsung 840Pro or Samsung 840Evo (if cant reach the pro pricing). I would probably go with the evo and save some, in two years we will have Sata Express so most will be moving on to newer and faster ssds. And dont plan completly fulling the ssd, try to invest a little more and have some space to spare, many still do overprovisioning to keep the ssd in top shape, imo not needed, but doesnt hurt, i try always to plan not to reach 80% of the ssd, but thats just what i like.

For 3tb, only for storage no programs nor games.... i would go WD Red 3 TB NAS Hard Drive: 3.5 Inch, SATA III, 64 MB Cache - WD30EFRX

first of all thank you so much for your advice :)

for wd red; can I run any program or game on this disk? does it cause a problem? if it does, Should I prefer black instead of green for long term and reliability?or alternatively do you suggest seagate drives that I wrote options on the first message?

Thank you so much again.

Reds n Greens are slower rpm hdds and have a higher response time, are not meant for running OS/Programs, they are ideal for storage imo. If you plan on installing programs n games on the mechanical go with the Black.

this has been a great drive and gets good reviews by everyone and $80 with promo code and 3 year warranty, I normally do not stray from wd blacks either as there is so many issues with reds and greens.

As far as SSD I have had a few different ones and my 256gb 840 pro has been my fav. The 128gb 840 pro was just on sale for $110 shipped too.

I have had SSD's that were absolute bottom of the barrel and all the way up to Intels. I've had 64GB models running with 2 or 3GB free. We have 6 SSD's in the household, the oldest being about 4 years. Not one of them has failed, even 2 OCZ's (one of which is for a garage computer that gets up over 100*F ambient in the summer). So I can't say that any of them are bad. The only "problem" I have had is that my first SSD was before TRIM or garbage cleanup was around. It uses a (original) JMicron controller and it is slow as molasses now (like SD card slow), but it still works.

Intel 520 all the way! I am using this in my prod server for booting the OS & is extremely fast. sandforce not performing issues are a thing of the past & this wrong perception is fading out rapidly.
