A friend of mine has a Thinkpad T400 which needs a new HDD, and he asked me if he could upgrade it to an SSD.

As he's buying a Samsung 830 256Gb unit for me, I had suggested that he could use the same on his Thinkpad.

From what I could find out, the only issue would be a slight speed limitation, due to the Thinkpad's SATA 2 interface. Am I right?

Any other issues that might make this upgrade not possible?

Hi, carlmart,

SATA III SSDs are backward compatible for use on SATA II ports. I suggest that the Thinkpad BIOS be updated to the newest version before installing the SSD.

Hope this helps.
