Just looking for some opinions. I primarily use my personal laptop to listen to podcasts & music at work and do some homework during downtime. Would the constant streaming of music for 8-10 hours a day accelerate the death of a modern SSD drive?
 
Nope. Even under heavily abusive use patterns, you're not going to kill a modern SSD from over-use until it's several years old. Streaming music is a fairly light workload - a few hundred MB to a few GB of data at most.

No. Remember the writes / erase cycles are what causes the wear. From my experience you should expect your SSD to last longer than the 5 years you can expect from a hard drive although like a hard drive an SSD can die at any time from before it arrives to you to its expected lifetime. But unlike a hard drive you usually can not easily recover your data from a dieing SSD and you probably will not get an indication of failure with SSDs since most failures seem to be controller or firmware related and not the NAND.

normal use off ssd likely expand beyond 20 years.

I use usb key for my music.

I accidentally deleted some temp files that I needed at the time from one of my scratch SSDs the other day. I have recycle bins globally disabled as I find it more of hassle. Within 2 minutes I ran a scan with GetDataBack and the file names were still there but the data was already gone. 0 Bits, zero nada.

SSDs are awesome for everything, but definitely immensely more confident with HDDs for backups. :D
