Does anyone here with a cheap notebook like mine installed a SSD? I've wondering if I should... it gets the job done, but the HD is really really slow. I don't do nothing powerful with the portable, only internet, word processing and stuff like that.

thanks.

I put an 80GB Intel X25-M in my old HP TX2 convertible laptop (old Turion processor/integrated HD3200 graphics) and it made a world of difference in responsiveness vs the old 320GB 5400 RPM HDD.

it will make a decent difference. plus ssds are alot cheaper now :)

All of the above. Plus you don't have to worry as much about bumping/dropping/jarring the laptop, due to lack of moving parts in the SSD. Not to mention the drastic decrease in noise. My laptop is almost silent with the SSD installed.

SSD will make a significant difference. I've done the same on a similar Acer model, and it's been well worth it.

I put an 80GB Intel in a C50 Acer and I don't think it was worth it at all. I was waiting on the CPU all the time, not the disk.

Now I'm second guessing the model number of my Acer... I'll have to check what it is this weekend.

I'm extremely impatient, so I can't use most laptops/netbooks unless it has an SSD.

Acer Aspire One, model 522 with a C50 proc and 2 GB RAM.

It's definitely not a workhorse, which is typical for netbooks. Though I noticed a significant improvement after swapping the mechanical drive for a SSD -- not only in Windows 7 startup, but also in Firefox sessions with tons of tabs and even threw on Visual Studio 2010 to compile/run some light console apps. So far it's been a perfect machine to travel with for everyday tasks.

If you don't use the optical drive much you could replace it with a HDD caddy and throw your HDD in there with the SSD in the main bay, that way you get performance and bulk storage.
