SSD complete data loss?

I've got an old Vertex 2 (yes, I know) and today I had sudden partition loss.

I ran some recovery software on it to see if I could get anything back and nothing came up... so I thought that maybe the drive hardware had failed.

I figured I'd try to format it again and see what happens... well it took the format and SSDLife gives it a good report, so this is confusing. It's showing no signs of hardware failure except for the data loss.

Now I'm running recovery software on it again, with a more in depth scan, to just see.

I've never heard of this sudden and complete data loss while still maintaining good hardware function. Is there anything specific I should try for recovery?
