Hey all, looking at 4 models from Samsung and trying to get a handle on performance and reliability of each and how they 'rank'. Im less concerned about price for this comparison

- 250 EVO
- 256 Pro
- 500 EVO
- 512 Pro

Thanks!

Look here

There are some links to reviews in there - dindn't you look around before posting?;)
Or are those not what u r looking for?

if you want pure performance then.. samsung 840PRO all the way.. its still the fastest and reliable (its MLC vs TLC on EVO). Solid State Drive in the market.. what its good about the 840EVO its they are cheaper and comes up to 1TB and 840PRO up to 250GB.

Thanks. Where things got a little more interesting for me, during my search, was when I came across anandtech who showed that the larger 500 EVO was faster than the smaller ones. I believe even faster than the Pro if memory serves me. Seemed to go against my original thinking. More than anything I was trying to validate this. I know I want a Samsung 840, just unsure between the 2 sizes and between the 2 model types

Thanks!

Well if you need a test run, i've got a 840 Evo 500GB; just installed it yesterday and havent run any benchmarks yet though

thats right 500GB+ 840EVO are pretty on pair with 500GB 840PRO, however, the 840 its still faster, but 840EVO have much better value peer MB. let your wallet talk:rolleyes:

It all depends on what you want to use it for - I use it for a desktop; i dont care whether its 400MB/s or 500MB/s, i got it for price/size value.

Its different if i want to use it for ZFS/Storage/high transfer volume setup; then the difference might actually save me a lot of time and then it might be worth it.

I'm interested in this as well. Thinking either a 512Gb SSD or a 750Gb SSD. A single SSD drive in a SFF rig acting as the only storage device with W7 O/S loaded on it and games. Suggestions?

Well thats what i have - except i dont have it in SFF b/c i wanted to be able to dampen the case if need be (7970 is quite loud under load) but i went aio with it for now. Works great so far and i don't see a reason why it wouldn't.

Performance is pretty close and the newer EVO has some extra features that can boost performance (Rapid Mode). However, I prefer the MLC drives for the extra peace of mind, though the reality is the TLC drives will probably outlast their relevance. The TLC drives are cheaper, but on the other hand you can get a Crucial MLC drive for the same price. Performance wise they are both plenty fast. Samsung does have Crucial beat in software though (Magician, Firmware Updates, etc).
