Ok, I have a Gigabyte P55A-UDP4 that I purchased a while back. I bought this version planing on the SATA3 use in the future.

Well, I'm wanting a SSD drive. After reading a bunch of posts, it seems I should completely bypass the SATA3 on this MB since it uses the Marvel 9128.

So should I just get a SATA2 SSD or get a SATA3 SSD and then purchase a SATA3 controller? If yes, which controller?

Thanks for any advice

highpoint series 6XX are good devices for this. dont expect much from them in raid, but as a pure passthrough they will be good for you.

if you want to get something with some more oomph for cheap go 9211 LSI

if you want mid class go 9260 LSI

high end 9265 LSI

and if you bench get a areca 1880 with 4gb cache.
