I tried this today. As described here it was a very simple thing to do. However, unlike the original modders I decided not to put up with the instability of the socks when I tried to put them over the pads. So I cut 4" (~10cm) off of the black Nike socks I had. I folded the sock over once on the non-elastic side and started sewing. I had the whole thing sewn well up and I folded once more. Sewed that too. Placed the folded and sewn end inside the pads and folded the rest of the sock around the other end. I'm a bit more isolated from the outside world. However, like the modders previous there is not that much difference in sound.
 
At the moment Mister X I am jobless and am trying to spend as little money as possible. This took a little time out of my day which was what I was looking for. No pics yet as I don't have a digicam but I'll probably borrow a friend's.
