Does an i7 2600k fit in the SR2 EVGA classified motherboard. I want to put that in but is it compatible with this motherboard. Thanks everybody. Is the motherboard good or not really. Please reply and tell me if it fits in the motherboard or is compatible planning on building a beast rig.
 
The short answer is No.

The long answer is the SR-2 is only compatible with LGA1366 processors. The i7-2600K is a LGA1155 processor.
 
It does not. The SR-2 needs LGA1366 Xeons.
Whether the SR-2 is "good" or not should not be a question, as it is the only motherboard of its kind in production right now. With that being said, I believe it is quite a nice board, with quality components and a feature-rich BIOS.
I personally would not build a SR2 system right now though, seeing as SB-E is right around the corner and IB-E is in the near future.
 
If you are going with sandy bridge either p67 or z68 chipsets if you can't wait for the new stuff for sb-e in nov or dec or ib around march. asus, gigabyte, and msi all have good boards in several price ranges.
 
CPU performance no longer really depends on the motherboard. Higher end motherboards will overclock CPU's better, but you need to make sure you have the cooling to handle it. And even then, the maximum overclocks would differ by about 2-300 mhz, which isn't much at all.

Seeing as how you seem to know nothing at all, I wouldn't even touch overclocking yet.

P67 or Z68 motherboard from Asus, Gigabyte, EVGA, or MSI for top-quality boards, and seeing as how you're looking at a top-of-the-line motherboard, they're the brands you want to look at. Biostar and ASrock are recommended budget brands. Go do your research, find out which boards have the features you want.

not entirely true. SR-2 needs xeon with dual qpi 55xx/56xx series only
