SR2 and a 2p system which processors to use

Well the above is my dilemma. I haven't thought it totally through and here is the situation.
In my quest for a hex box I ended up buying a 2p server motherboard with X5550's as it was more reasonable. Then while trolling around looking for some hex chips at a reasonable price I ended up buying an SR2 along with 2 L5640's. Dang folding addiction...

So I have one server box that is unable to overclock and one SR2 that we all know will.
Now where should I put the processors for the most ppd TOTAL.
I am thinking put the hex cores (L5640s) on the server board and run them stock and put the X5550s on the SR2 and clock them up to get more points.

What do you guys think?

Well for reference stock 5640's do about 120k, oc'd at about 200k, that's an 80k swing. I'm not sure but I'd say you can't beat that with the 50's, I'd say OC the hex's

Yes, overclock the hexacores. The points curve is non-linear and exponential. Therfore, putting all your eggs in one basket is a viable strategy for folding.

Well that is kind of the question. If I don't overclock the 50's they will have 16 threads but not sure there is enough speed there to make the time on big adv. But if I overclock them I should be able to make the time easily.

Then of course the hexs running stock will make the deadlines and as stated above make about 120K. Not sure what the 5550's make either stock or oc'd.

You make a good point with this. Since we don't know what the deadlines will be yet, you are asking a question that can't be answered. You are going to be safer to overclock the quads and run the hexes at stock as you mentioned, but that will not be your most ppd if the quads can still run bigadv at stock speeds.

We will know in 2 weeks or so.....

That said, OC the hexes. On the off chance that it was the wrong choice, swapping isn't a HUGE deal.

Ok decision made. I am going to overclock the hexs.

I had originally bought the quads X5550s for a stop gap till I could get some hexs at a good price. So I will just leave the quads stock and sell them off when I find more hexs...

Sheesh... I gotta quit buying stuff. You guys do realize I am on a pension...

Even if he is stuck on regular bigadv, his point loss on the 5550's will be less than the hexes losing a chance at a 50% clock speed increase. He is not going to lose 80K PPD on the 5550's (which is close to their total output right now). So pre change he would be around 280-290K with OC'd hexes, and stock quads. Post change in the event the quads cant do bigbeta anymore he would be at around 250K with overclocked hexes, and stock quads. There is also the fact that the hexes will most likely have an bigger increase from the overclock since they both would probably bit around the same clock frequency range (3.6-4.0 ish).

He "should" be able to get around 4.2 out of those quads, I had 4 out of my 5530's, his multi is higher than mine so 4.2 should be within reason

I have a pair of ES E5645( 6-core 2.4Ghz ) in a X8DAL-i and do about 350Kish on 6904. I have another pair of E5645 in a SR-2 OC'ed to 3.4Ghz and do about 460Kish on 6904.

thats what i'm thinking.....otherwise how the hell do i hax the system to get that :D
