Well I'm playing around with the settings.

Brut force is not going to work with these chips.

I would love for some one who is a memory expert to let me know what we need to do with these. I think that is what is holding me back.

What are your current settings and what are the rest of the specs?

BLCK: 190
RAM: 1066 setting divider
Turbo: on

Vcore 1.325
VVT 1.3
IOH 1.35

RAM is 1600MHz OCZ gold

Vtt at 1.325 and Vcore at about 1.35 should get you close to 200 bclk. One piece of advice that you are going to hate - run LinX at max memory setting for each step. It takes ~5 minutes per pass, but that will tell you if the memory is a problem.

Yeah, bump the vtt, I know I had to have it way up around 1.35 for my L5609 to hit 205 BCLK. I'm not familiar with EVGA's bios, what is the FSB: DRAM ratio for the 1066 setting, is it 1:8 or something else, CPU-Z should say.

1066 is 2:8, so 190 bclk with this setting is 1520 MHz for the memory.

I got it to boot with 190BLCK and the voltage settings you guys had.

195 was a nogo

1.35 VTT is supposedly the max safe VTT for 32nm Xeons, so you should be good to go up to it. It really helps the BCLK since you're working with a locked uncore. Unless the new bios's have it unlocked, I haven't messed with a 56xx chip since March.

These guys are full of it!!!!!! Lies, Lies, Lies, Lies, Lies!!!!

Box it up, and send it to me and just let me figure it out for you!!!! :D:D:D:D

Unfortunately he is right. I did this with all my eVGA boards and end the end it was the best way.
But having a higher starting point is nice

OCZ Ram. I haven't had a lot of luck with it. I have a set of platinum and Intel Extreme XMP.
My Corsair TR3X6G1600C9 and Corsair TR3X3G1333C9 beat it hands down.

Wish I had some extra ram to send you! Unfortunately ram is something I don't have a truck load of.

Update:
I seem stable at 190 I'll try and tweek more later.

In any case. This is the friggen schweet part: I'm only pulling 426 watts from the wall. and I'm getting 65k ppd on a NORMAL WU! 6052, TPF 1:16

That is better than mine is doing at 198 bclk. I did notice that a faster bclk doesn't necessarily mean a faster machine. I was chalking mine up to bad memory, but that may not be the case.

So are you going to update your sig anytime soon? You must be the first member of the dual SR2 owners club here!

Dual-dual-hexs.

Or, dual-dual - dual,dual,duals. :p

I like the sound of that.

The second SR-2 comes in on Wednesday

It will be a SR-2 with L5640s and one with E5530's the E5530's will be in the main, everyday rig... because I sold my main rig to get the SR-2 :p

Ahh, so Lettuce will be gone since you sold it? I must have missed that as I didn't realize it. However I don't want you going up and messing up your TPF's by gaming once your 2nd SR2 board arrives. You'll have to name this 2nd SR2 rig something special, and definately a lot more creative than how I name my folding rigs. Maybe eVGAStomper?

Well, I had a rig that I sold to capreppy a while back and I haven't reused the name.

The E5530 system will still be Nexus
The new L5640 will be Origami Master

Kendrak and I will be in a virtual tie on this, as my board is scheduled for delivery on Wednesday as well. It will just be a race to see who gets SR-2 #2 set up first. Judging from the fact that Kendrak had already run some tests and had posted and PM'ed me for info before I walked through the door (and i left early today), I think he is going to win... :)

Ahhh but you will be the first dual-dual-hexer! None of those crappy dual quads, pfft. ;)

It is like the Guinness book of records - seeing as all the easy stuff has been done I aim to be the first dual SR-2 hex owner to have less that 2 mill points ;)

better get jumping on that then, one dual hex only gives you less than 20 days to do that

And K, check your RAM timings, I noticed on auto mine still had a command rate of 1 even after I OC'd like mad and had her over 1600, could be something to look into, it seems Auto doesnt really work that great for me when it comes to timings

The ironic thing I see here, is that our team probably has more SR2's folding for the team than eVGA has folding for their team. Just imagine how awesome it would be if someone actually brought out a SR2 like dual G34 board.

Extremely awesome. Regarding the SR-2, I seriously doubt any other team in any DC project has as many SR-2 systems that we have or will have soon. I doubt there are people who own two systems and this team will have at least two members who will as we speak...

Why settle for dual socket? QUAD socket!!!!

I wouldn't even want to know what the power draw of a quad socket SR-2 like motherboard would be. Then you need a PSU with the right connectors. Lets just hope that Sapphire is working on something for the AMD side of things considering that eVGA's entire motherboard team left for them recently.

That is why this team is so [H]ard! This is why that "other" team better not go to sleep once they pass us by, as there is going to be a giant 10 story sized target on their backs.

Approximately 1000W.

ERR Wrong, Intel spec sheet shows that 1.4v is the max safe VTT and VCORE for the 32nm Xeons.

yeah lets hope.. dual socket overclockable G34 would be awesome.. wait til the bulldozers come out and snatch up some 12 core magny cours and overclock those puppies to 3+ ghz.. mmmm.. its wishful thinking but if it did happen you could pretty much kiss the SR-2 goodbye for F@H..

Hey, well that means I have more room to play with on the Vcore, and I may need it.

What is the max VVT and IOH that I should be looking at? Where can I find the specs for things like that?

Vtt is 1.4 as mentioned above, and I would assume IOH is similar. I have had both of these well over 1.4 on mine at various times.

Yup, the general guideline on the EVGA SR-2 forum has been 1.4 on both with the 32nm Xeons...and you'll need it to get past the 185-190ish BCLK hump.

ahhh but for how long? Did your board or CPU look tired at the end of it? Bit puffed? Rosy cheeked? Shortness of breath?

I was thinking that my limits were going to be 1.39 vcore, 1.375vtt and 1.4 IOH, but maybe now I think I might be happy to go to 1.40 everything and see what happens. If Intel says that is the max, you know they built in some contingency :p

Also, it helps my inner debate - the "I should get a second SR2 in case I break the first one" argument...

Lifetime warranty fixes that issue, register in under 30 days!!

Yeah, on the board, those ES chips have no warranty and they should have been free. Instead you're out a couple hundred a chip with no recourse. Have to pay to play.

It's been a long time since I've seen a modern chip fried by a normal overclocker

You shouldn't need to do anything with IOH unless you're running multiple PCIe cards (IME).
Stock IOH of 1.1 is usually sufficient for any oc. I bumped mine to 1.12 just because I'm running 2 gpus. Otherwise it's really not worth bumping much, it's not going to make much difference (as much as, say, raising Vtt or changing the QPI/uncore frequency).

Yeah you can :)
It's labeled QPI frequency. (I've seen it in a bios pic.)
Granted I don't have my board yet (coming today) to know what the options are to pick from (the pic I've seen had it on auto), but it's there.
