Hey all! Just got done building my new HTPC and I was hoping everything was going to be all nice and quiet. Well I was browsing the internet and navigating thru windows when I hear some squealing type noise, clearly audible. I put my ear over the HDD (WD Green 640GB sata) and I hear nothing. Put my ear over my PSU (Seasonic S12II 500W) and it's definitely coming from there.

Any ideas on how to stop this?

AMD X2 245 Regor
2GB Kingston ram
WD 640gb green
Seasonic S12II 500W

There's no way to stop it. The only thing you can really do is RMA the PSU and hope that you get back one that doesn't have the same behaviour.

Well that blows. I connected some system fans directly into the PSU rather than the pin connectors on the mobo to add some more load onto the PSU. I thought it lowered the squealing a little but it might just be my imagination.

I guess I'll have to wait til the whole room is done and see how bad/noticeable the psu really is.

One of my Seasonics, an M12-II 430W, had a slight squeal when it was brand new. One day the sound was just gone, and hasn't returned. (I never changed the configuration of the rig either).

Might have been the fan making the sound instead of coils, but I'm not exactly sure really.

I'll keep an ear out and see what changes. Honestly, it won't be heard during a movie or even music. It'll probably only be heard as I navigate thru the front end GUI really.
