Well now that i had to reinstall my entire OS due to spyware or something bad, I am going to buy a Anti Spy program, which ones would you fellas suggest as I want to only buy one?

"The First Rule of Preventing Spyware is..."

Get a better browser. Seriously.

The browser is the front line of defense in this "war" we're all part of these days, the war against spam/spyware/adware/popups.

If you're using Windows, get Avant, get Firefox, get Opera, get Maxthon, get something - but don't use plain old vanilla IE or you're gonna hate yourself for it.

If you're using OS X, well, Safari is the default browser, Firefox (same link above) is available and comes in some more efficient builds known as "Deer Park" that might do you better. I think there is another (maybe more than one) but I'm not a Mac user sooo... someone else can supply those other names if they exist.

The point is: Don't run plain vanilla IE since that's the one that spyware/adware/popups tends to be written for. Why? Because it's on roughly 95% of the consumer owned PCs on the face of the planet, that's why.

Hope this helps...

ps
As for spyware/adware/popups, if the browser you choose can't handle it, the options are Spybot (mentioned already), Ad-aware and Microsoft Antispyware - currently those are the "big 3"

Well, i'd get spybot (it's free and the best *don't pay for something that's not as good and 50% likely to be made by some spammer*)- then update it (definitions and innoculations) and innoculate your pc.

I personally use IE6 and don't have a problem with it- never get adware/malware- mainly because i keep it updated, and don't allow scripts to run unchallenged. Out of curiosity, what OS are you running? Have you been to windowsupdate to get it completely patched yet? If not, you're probably already compromised.

In summary:
Get spybot (free)
Get Ad-aware (free)
Get Zone-alarm (free)
Configure IE so that activex and other scripts ask permission before running (free)
Keep IE and windows updated monthly (free)
Never have problems with adware/spyware/malware again (priceless)

Thanks for the help fellas, ok this is the software I am running for my security as of now.

McAffee Anti Virus
McAfee WIFI Protection Sute
McAffee Anti Spyware (Bran New, and it works great)
Zone Alarm Pro
SpyBot
AdWare SE
Maxthon Browser
And I use windows XP Pro as my OS, I am just about finished installing everything on my Asus Notebook after I got a bad spyware or something that kept locking up my computer and it was running horribly. I just have the printer drivers to load and thats about it, so far its running the best ever, and from now on I am making my comp a fortress, as this wont happen again, what a pain in the butt reloading everything.

"Deer Park Alpha" was the codename for the Firefox 1.5 alpha builds, definitely not more efficient than finalized code. FF 1.5 is now in Beta, and you can download it from www.mozilla.org.
