• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.

Spyware invasion

My brother was complaining about spyware(he's 12  ), so i came and ran adaware and spybot S & D, etc. They got most of it, but 3 still remain.

1. About every 10 min, IE tries to launch C:\Win98\dlm.html(it use d to be a plarge WARNING PORNOGRAPHY etc thing, but I deleted it. The error messages still appear)

2. IE refuses(well, it changes back as soon as I click OK) to let the homepage be changed from C:\Win98\secure.htm. I changed secure.htm to a meta refresh to the page it should be, but that's not a real decent solution.

3. According to windows resource monitor, sometimes my resources crawl down to like 1% free. This is plainly evidenced by the lockups it goes through. CTRL+ALT+Del reveals the white box of death, stating I have low resources, and asks me to close apps, etc. A quick logoff at about 10% free tells me some application which doesnt' show up in the Ctrl+Alt+del box(wmej1f or something unrecognizable) is not responding. I suspect virus/trojan. Any solutions?

Upgrading to 2K, XP is not an option, It's a 266MHZ P2. I can't reformat this box... too much data that'd need backing up.

HELP.

Edit: Damn.. this belongs somewhere else, huh?

Run HijackThis found here.
Good advice.
Try Firefox for a web browser.
Definately a smart move.

We get IE related spyware/malware/adware problems here everyday, but none from users of other browsers. This should tell you something, regardless of other views on the issue.
