Recently I obtained a free Gateway desktop PC. The PC works perfectly but the case is a eyesore. The case is white I was wondering if some spray paint would make it look nice? If so what kind of spray paint?

depends on how much work you want to put on it...if u want to just get it painted without priming and sanding

give the krylon fusion a shot

otherwise there are lots of resources on the interwebs about painting a case...

Are you spraying the inside or the outside? If its outside I would recommend getting a sander and some medium grit sandpaper, and sanding off all the paint. Then go get some rustoleum paints (they're relatively easy to use). Prime it lightly, let it dry, prime it a second time. Then use whatever paint you want for the outside look. Spray it a couple of times. Then finish it off with a varnish or gloss.

I second the Krylon fusion suggestion. It works really well on Plastic, and you don't have to prep or prime it.

I recently (more or less) did whole case using a couple techniques (the worklog can be found here):

1. Metal Exterior Panels - Sand, sand, sand. Automotive primer. Red Krylon Fusion. Sand. Paint. Sand. Paint. Clear coat.

2. Plastic Exterior Panel (front bezel) - Sand. Fill (OR use a filling primer, which I highly recommend). Red Krylon Fusion. Sand. Paint. Sand. Paint. Clear coat.

Arcygenical has an awesome painting tutorial here. While I didn't follow every step (I didn't bake my paint job), there are a ton of decent tips in that thread.

Best of luck, and post pics of the end result!

What if you were painting the inside from grey to black? Would fusion be good for that or what process would be best?

use metal paint for metals. and that krylon fusion paint for plastics.

painters tape is your friend.

and dont spray paint in any weather under 75 deg F

I used Tremclad matte black for the interior (different gloss levels are available). It's designed for pretty extreme conditions (such as for outdoor metal furniture). I gave the frame a good cleaning and sanding prior to applying the Tremclad.

In terms of strictly matching Krylon to plastic, and something else to the metal: my only concern was the ability to match paint colours. For the interior, because it didn't have to match the exterior, I simply used the Tremclad (think it was on sale). In terms of the exterior, where colour matching was important, Krylon Fusion for Plastic is good for use on "Wood, Metal, Wicker, Wrought Iron, Plastic, Hard Vinyl, Glass, Plaster, Ceramic, Paper, Paper Mache."

(Hopefully you won't need to paint your paper mache mods! :p )

Having used it on wood, metal, plaster, and plastic, I can share that I have had no issues with using it on other materials than plastic.

I painted one of my cases with automotive spray paint from Canadian Tire. But I did sand it lightly first and applied three coats of paint and then 2 coats of clear coat on top to protect the paint job. I painted mine gun-metal oxide and it looks like a mean beast.
