Hey everyone,

I always loved playing sports games back in my PS2 days. Is there anything out there now that is fun to play and looks good on the PC?
 
NHL 09 is fun on the PC. Graphics look fine to me and the gameplay is great. Graphics-wise I'm not sure how it compares to a console.
 
All the EA Sports stuff is pretty polished. I've been playing a lot of Madden recently.

And also Summer Athletics, if you fancy a bit of multiplayer fun and old school Track & Field type sporting action. (Review here if interested: http://www.itreviews.co.uk/games/g486.htm)
 
EA games for the PC aren't that bad. They just tend to lag behind about 5 years on the graphics engines.

I'm not really sure the graphics matters so much unless you really zoom in on the players. I'm assuming most people play sports games zoomed out quite a bit.

Play NHL 09 or Madden 09 for xbox 360 or PS3, then play the pc version. The difference is night and day.

Madden 09 never came out for PC because EA thinks it's not worth their time. Bastards. :mad:
 
I just ordered a 360 controller because I have GRID and GTR2, but I live in a dorm and don't really have a place to store a steering wheel (it's tiny in here). Along with ordering my controller, I ordered NBA 2K9 and Shaun White Snowboarding. It seems like EA has pretty much crapped out on all of their PC games, which is sad because I always enjoyed the sports games. I've been huge into Madden and FIFA, but I don't want a short-changed version. I'll let you know what I think about with my two new games.

It's SO BAD in comparison to what's on the Xbox360/PS3.

If the next-gen NHL was out for PC I wouldn't even have an Xbox right now.
 
It sucks but I really think that if you want sports games you simply must own a console. Sports is dead on the PC and that's a real shame and the reasons for that can be well debated. It's kind of a chicken-egg argument.
 
If you're thinking of spending your hard earned money on sports games, you really are much better off going with a console if you can afford to get one. There are still some sports games produced for the PC, but that number is shrinking rapidly. Madden and NBA Live were discontinued on the PC by EA and although I can't speak for FIFA 09 which is available for Windows, NHL09 for PC should be viewed as a completely different product than the far superior version available for console.
