It seems that things are not all and well in Mycomputerroomsville. My new computer has [seemingly] crashes. They only seem to occur while playing games [ie. Halo, Counter-Strike, Tomb Raider AOD]. I figure that I either have a bad GPU or a *really* crappy PSU. Here is what makes my machine tick:
Gigabyte Radeon 9600XT [Not using overdrive]
Abit NF7-S 2.0
AMD XP 1800+ [Stock clock\FSB]
512mb GeIL Value Series PC3200 DDR RAM [1 stick, stock settings]
Powmax 'Ultra Cool' LP-6100X 400watt PSU
Some cheap case that came from a 1997 Dell, the side is off for now
El-cheapo 52x CDRW
160GB Western Digital SE drive (no previous problems; bought 3 weeks ago)
That should be all that really matters. The ATi "VPU Recover" never gets triggered, and I have ABIT's "AbitEQ" program running constantly (which should tell me if anything is getting too hot or deprived of power). I put the system together last night and have not had a change to Prime95 it yet [but I will tonight].
The only other thing that I can think of is that I am using 2 daisy-chained power strips as a cheap, makeshift extension chord. The only thing on them is a D-Link router, my computer, cheap G&E speakers, and my monitor.
The system [when it crashes] simply shuts off and stays that way [because it is set to in the BIOS].
Any other ideas as to what might be causing it?
