Spoiled by 2008 memory prices?

Damm... I am thinking about building a new system and looking at memory prices I miss the old days when in 2008, you could snag a 4GB (2x2GB kit) for $30 AR at Frys.

Nowadays it seems like memory prices are just not on sale anymore... anyone knows what happened? - I just don't see why they no longer offer such great deals on memory like they used to.

In late 2008 early 2009 memory manufacturers were selling chips at below cost because world demand dropped (global recession) and they had a large excess of supply. Since then they cut production and demand has picked up. Also there has been a shift from DDR2 to DDR3.

If only those of us that didn't know would have known. I would have bought as many $90 6GB kits as I could have gotten my hands on. :D
