Most here may not remember, but I was asking about the SPM393 some time ago. I bought one to try despite not finding much info about them but the place I got it from, DAT Optic, were helpful to say the least. They even called me to see how it worked out.
I was going to do Raid5 with 5 2TB drives but when NCIX had a special on 1.5 Samsung EcoGreens, I bought 4 to add to a 2TB EG I already had. I changed my plan and decided to create a 'large' volume that combines all 5 drives into one volume, being 8TB in my case. Seeing how I will be backing up files on that volume externally, going with no redundancy does not concern me too much.
I ended up installing the card off the ass of my power supply where I had plenty of room...it also looks cool there and I can see it through the case window from where I sit. Then the left light blinks, its reading/writing.
I have a CM Storm Sniper case with a Lian Li HDD rack so I have room for lots of drives. I connected all the drives up and connected the card to a Intel SATA port but it did not work properly. The Intel port didn't recognize volumes over 2TB. I tried the SI port on my Asus P5Q Pro and it worked perfectly. After some playing around with the included software, I created the volume. 7.2TB formatted.
Using DiskBench, I got this on a 1.5GB file read

Results seem pretty good in my opinon. So far I am happy with this. I only use this drive for media so speed was not a big factor for me....just capacity.
