I need an opinion of a professional hdd master, I have this problem with 2 hard drives. Hitachi and Seagat. When I load OS, or try to load Rad Studio, I hear this sound. This sound repeats again and again for hours. I don't understand what's wrong with my hard drives. What causes this sound? On internet forums I usually hear "do a backup and buy a new disc". But my Seagate is new and producws this annoying sound, it always loses system liles, checkdisc always performing checking when I start my computer and correcting lots of system files, sometimes it works good, but sometimes hdd produces this sound and computer slows down at the moments when it makes this scratching noise. Recently my second hdd Hitachi started to produce the same noise when i start computer and it loads os, very often these scratching noises follow dark screen with the message "ntldr is missing" on it, if this sound starts when hdd is working it slows down computer. Please listen and say what do these sounds mean.
 
The drives are failing. It's repeated head seek / failure noise, and honestly, it's amazing you're still able to get any data off either drive if they're both making that noise.

Back everything up, send the new (presumably under warranty) drive off to service. They'll either refurb and end up erasing everything or send you another drive, hence "back up everything" first. The older drive, check warranty status. If it's under warranty, RMA. If not, throw it out after backing it up and get a replacement.

You /will/ lose all your data if you keep using drives making that noise, even intermittently. Get them replaced ASAP.
 
It's not under warranty. It has been working for 1 year like this. When I heard first time this sounds I thought that, as you said, maybe it would not be working. But then got used to hearing it. Sometimes it works silently, but sometimes it's like getting crazy. Today it noised the whole day. Belive me, I work with this noises every day for more than 6 months. Maybe the disc has failures, but not so critical as you think. It produces every day this sound. There are days it calms down. But what's wrong with it? If I could, I would open it and see personally but I don't want it to failure. But I am writing here, because I think I can meet here a hdd expert who knows this problem and could professonally explain to me this problem.

The sound means it's time to replace, move your data, and be thankful they gave you such a generous warning.

The click is a continuous "reset to park" of the arm unit, because of some failure in the drive.

Impossible to say which without attempting a repair.
