I need a graphics card for my new build. I have a gold rated 800W psu so no troubles there and a SLI capable motherboard, one again no troubles. It also has an i5 2500K and a case that can fit graphics cards up to 410mm in length, so pretty much any graphics card.

Now BF3 recommended requirements are out and I need to pick a GPU for the build. I was thinking of getting something low end and upgrading to the 7xxx series but thats been delayed so I need a mid level card to either put in SLI or crossfire or that will sell for an acceptable amount to fund an upgrade to 7970 or the likes mid next year.

Heres my ideas:

- 2GB 6950 Dirt3 (overclock it to 900+ Mhz)
- 570/6970 but that would be really stretching the budget.
- CFX/SLI something really low end..

What do you guys rekon?

If you have a microcenter next to you there is a 20% off all video cards. You could get the ZOTAC GTX 580 AMP for $400 AR, price is before coupon, do the math $430 x 0.20 = total amount of the discount. Total discount - $30 MIR = total price, tax might be included in your state.

Coupon

Zotac GTX 580

This is just an example if you have a microcenter near you. You could buy any video cards towards your liking.

But if its buying online (i.e Newegg) I suggest you should buy the cards that you listed in your original post.

Single 6950, Toxic if you can find it in stock, should have good resale value and it's the recommended video card for BF3.

Thankyou PiEownz and Spudsdude for your responses, this is my first forum and I'm liking it. I live outside the US, much to my dismay and can't get rebates, a Toxic 6950 and there is no Newegg of Microcenter so no dice on those fronts unfortunately :/

Don't be a pussy. Go 3-Way SLI'ed GTX 580 3GB's. Get yourself some HP ZR30w monitors to go with that.

Funny thing is I could afford 580 SLI if I really wanted to. I'm only a student and have a bit of money just laying around but value for money just is not there :p seems like a waste.

I was planning on starting a full WC loop with 7xxx cards. I just need a card for BF3/Borderlands 2/everything else.

I like your idea for the 6950 dirt 3 edition. It's a sweet card at a good price. Also it should overclock very well. You may even be able to unlock the shaders and get a 6970 for cheap.

Yeah I'm definitely leaning that way. I've seen people get 940Mhz and thats when it hits 6970 performance all the while stay <70C at stress. I don't think I'll flash it, its like a 20% success rate and I don't want to brick it.

You might also want to look into a GTX 560ti. It provides between HD6870 and HD6950 performance and price.
