Im a little confused about my temperatures, and how accurate they are. I have a q6600 on a evga 680i mobo, 8800 gtx, Cm690 case with a lot of airflow and vista64 bit. The only utility I can use is speedfan, everything else will not work for vista64. On speedfan my temps seem ok, but then I read forums that say I must increase the temps by at least 15 degrees. Which would make my temps very high for a stock cpu and stock HSF. My temps are as follows.
In bios it fluctuates depending on the load, but after my ntune stability it was at
CPU 44c
BOARD 35c
MCP 46c –what is MCP?
If im idleing in windows, and ill restart its the same temp, I seen the cpu drop to 41c.

In speedfan @ idle its this. (with cpu fan at 100%)
System: 6c
CPU:38c
AUX:35c
Core0:28c
Core1:25c
Core2:25c
Core3:25c
on stability tests
System: 6c
CPU:47c
AUX:35c
Core0:39c
Core1:39c
Core2:36c
Core3:36c

In speedfan after I put a load on, either playing crysis, or performing a stability test on Ntune, the CPU jumps to 44-47c. And the other cores jump up to 34-40c. However, if I add the 15degrees to these temps that means im running crazy hot. So does anyone know if my temps on speedfan are off by 3-4 degrees, or 15? Let me know what you guys think. If im running to hot, or if the temps seeen in speedfan are fine.

Note: After posting this, i downloaded and ran everest. After doing everests tests, my CPU temp went to 50c, CPU1 core1 at 65c, core3 at 57c. But everest temps seem off as well. It wont show me all core temps, and on the test graph the cpu temp was 53c. Help explain this to me, thanks.

I would say that's pretty warm. Although as it isn't overclocked it should stay within the recommended temp. Although the stock cooler is pretty rubbish, if you're conserned upgrade your cooling.

And i've noticed with my Speedfan it reports temps very different to Rivatuner w/ C2D plugin and Coretemp.

yea, but i don't even think everest has accurate temps either. And as I test my temps more and more, speedfan if its off, its only off by 4 degrees.

I get same ( not even near your setup ) but same if I look at Core Temp utility , and Speedfan . Core Temp always looks lower .lol

Sorry they made me edit my sig ,and now my info is gone ...............What is up with that ? thanx

With Q6600it will read 15 degreesC lower than what is correct because of the rated FSB of that chip. Try Intel TAT, it should be more accurate. Or just note the temps you see in speedfan are 15C low.

Speedfan:

Configure --> Advanced --> Chip: Intel Core --> Set a 15 degree offset --> Remember it (checkbox)

I don't think so. I think it's because the quad cores have a 100 degree TJunction.

I thought the 100 t Junction was common to all the higher FSP chips? Q6600, and the E4xxx processors. I could be wrong as it doesn't seem to effect me. speedfan and Intel TAT give quite similar temps.

no it is only quad core intel processors that are misreported in speedfan. Like the others said, set the offset to +15 and it will be accurate. Doesn't matter whether it is a b3 or g0. Dual core chips are reported correctly, it doesn't have to do with the new 1333fsb anyhow tjunction is the culprit. It is at 100c on all quads but no dual core chips.

ok, i set the offset to 15, and those offsets are for Core0-Core4. System, CPU, and AUX temps stayed the same. Core0-Core4 temps are higher than the CPU temps above AUX??:

System:2c
CPU:35c
AUX:32c
Core0:38c
Core1:37
Core2:36c
Core3:37c

your core temps are always going to be higher than your cpu temps. And it is normal to have a little difference between 0-1 and 2 and 3.
