Hello [H] folders,
I haven't been folding for about a year now, but was looking at starting again and had some questions. Back in the day I ran all the clients with wine b/c the windows version ran (slightly) faster. Is this still the case, or is there another reason I would want to do this again? I was planning on using the finstall script, can I use more than one flag, namely 'gentoo' and 'wine?' Thanks.

I don't know terribly much, but this thread might have some of the answers you're looking for.

i *think* the general consensus was the Windows client was faster, but that may have changed w/ the release of 5.0.2

however, if you were to run something like Damn Small Linux in text mode, the overhead would be so low (less than 24MB RAM) that it would probably fold faster than a Windows client would.

In the case of a Northwood P4@2.7 and a AMD XP Mobile@2400 using later FAH's in various linux dist's/own built it still runs slower for me, but not as slow as before...

i used to run windows xp pro and for varrious reason switched to red hat. i can tell you for sure that the windows client is much faster. used to fold average Wu in about a day now it takes like 2 and a half, and thats with close to no other proceses running.
