Well, whenever i start speed fan my comp goes nuts and shuts down (new rig btw).

Also, nmonitor tells me suspiciously low temps, like idle at 22c and load at 30c. Did i do somtething goofy?

Ive got a dfi sli-dr expert with a opty 170, zalman 9500 led, generic ram untill newegg finishes my rma (im not overclocking so im not worried). :(

I don't understand why that would happen. You can always try the ubiquitous uninstall/reinstall, making sure you have the latest version. You can also get the latest beta version if you register for and log into his website.

As far as MBM goes, does the 22-30 degree temp change very rapidly (like when starting/stopping prime95 or something like that), or is it a slow progression? If it's not very rapid, then that temp isn't likely to be your CPU temp.

Well my fear is that i have my heatsync or somethign instaled poorly (although i thought i did a pretty good job) and my bios is detecting the high temp of a cpu and shutting down. Now, it is a gradual change so i suppose its a false reading. What program would you recomment using to monitor temps?

I got it to work by following this in the help:

If SpeedFan starts and then hangs while detecting your hardware, it might be due to a problem with your SMBus. Most hardware monitoring chips nowadays are connected to the SMBus. Anyway: it might be that you need not to access the SMBus in order to get hardware monitoring info. You can try this by running SpeedFan with the following command line switch:

i need to learn to rtfm lol ^^

Speedfan shows quick jumps of 22c up to like 27c from 0-5% cpu to 80-100% cpu. I just cant believe the fan is working that well. Does this seem pausable to you guys?

Download and run the latest version of CPU-Z. Make sure, while you are loading the CPU 80-100%, that it is running at the correct 2000mhz and ~1.35 Volts. With regard to how quickly the temp changes, most of the differential should take place within 1-2 seconds of loading the CPU.

Also, check to see what temperature is reported in the BIOS.

There is a problem with the temp reports on the SLI-DR Expert and the Opteron Processors.
