Nice system, I'm jealous. :) But one thing, and I'm sure others will have other sugguestions, is the zalman cnps9700, I've read reviews that said it was awful (loud and hot) and it requires the motherboard to be removed to install/uninstall. I'm not sure what's the best, but I think you can do much better than that for that system. I got the thermaltake v1, easy to install and so silent I can't hear it from 1 1/2 feet. But I sugguest you check out some heatsink reviews and comparisons if you haven't. Have fun, later.
 
don't get the zalman cpu cooler. get the zerotherm nirvana nv120 or thermalright 120 extreme w/ scythe s-flex fan instead.

is it necessary to get that expensive of a processor. your better off buying less expensive processor like the q6600, q9450, q9300 instead and overclocking them to 3.0ghz.... or more :D

pny 9800.... which one? the gtx or gx2? either way if you just get one card then get like the corsair hx620 if you want a modular psu. if you dont need modular ge the 650vx.

unless you really want the led lights, get the yate loon fans instead. they are cheap and will be good if your using it as case fans.
 
Why are you getting an Extreme Edition processor, 8GB of RAM, and Vista Ultimate?

An Extreme Edition processor is a waste of money. When you can get a Q6600, Intel's cheapest quad-core processor that has a locked multiplier, to consistently overclock to speeds higher than 3GHz, that should tell you something.

There are only three legitimate reasons for buying 8GB of RAM now. They are heavy Photoshop or 3D graphics use (I'm not talking about games here), video editing, and the use of multiple virtual machines. Even 4GB is considered overkill for most PC users.

Vista Ultimate combines the features of Vista Home Premium and Vista Business and includes a few extras, most notably the BitLocker drive encryption. Unless you get a very good deal on Vista Ultimate -- consider the fact that an OEM copy of Vista Home Premium costs around $100 now -- it's not worth the extra money, IMO.

Which monitor(s) do you have? Which games are you playing? Unless you have (or you're getting) a 24 inch or larger monitor, you may be better off getting the 512MB 8800GTS card.

It's not that Zalman makes bad CPU coolers, but there are much better CPU coolers available from Scythe, Zerotherm, XIGMATEK, and Thermalright.

Also, what's your budget? And where are you getting everything from?

get a cheaper processor and oc it. look into a better router, possibly one compatible with the draft N spec. I just bought the D-Link DI-655- backwards compatible with my G card, but ready for N when I am. A little pricey though at $150.

Can't speak from experience about heatsinks, but I plan on getting the Thermalright or Zerotherm model based on what I've read here.

Consider the Western Digital 640gb drive... apparently based on high-performance 320gb platters, it's been getting good word-of-mouth.

What resolution do you plan on gaming at? I think a 512mb GTS is the best value for anything below 1920x1200.

As always, take this all with multiple grains of salt!

I believe that the OP is buying a PCI wireless 802.11g card to put into his computer, not a standalone wireless router. And though I would like to recommend a Draft-N PCI card, it's not worth the extra money if the OP already has an effective 802.11g router/network in place.
 
Thanks for the info I knew it would be wise to ask opinions from others. Yeah I have a Wireless Linksys Router already with my comcast internet. I picked a Linksys wireless option to be the same. I also switched 9800 GTX sorry I left it out.

As far as the chip I see everyone's point about wasting money. I might put in a weaker CPU and upgrade later.

Is it true I'd have to reformat Vista if I go from dual core to a quad core later. So it means I need a quad core and upgrade to a quad core to avoid reformat?

You shouldn't need to reformat Vista if you only swap out the processor. At worst, should something get corrupted in some way, you may have to do a Repair Installation.

You never answered our questions regarding the montor(s)/resolution... well?

I can't recommend any particular monitor, but the 9800GTX would work fine on a 24 inch monitor. Any larger (like a 27-30 inch or larger LCD) and you'll probably need to look into an SLI/CrossFire setup.

If you intend at gaming at the res and high detail, etc. is important, you'll probably want either a gx2 with that mobo or SLI'd 512 GTS's (or GX2's if you've got $ to burn) on an MSI P7N Diamond.
