Specs on Cirrus GD 5446

I'm trying to get my machine here at work running dual head, but the only working PCI card I could find was a CL GD5446. It's mostly working, but I can't seem to get it to do anything better than 640x480 in 16bit color.

Before I tear too much hair out trying to get it up to 1024x768@16, does this chip even support such a video mode? I kept trying to google for it, but couldn't find anything.
 
It's likely so old that it doesn't either have enough ram to run that high, or else the ramdac doesn't have enough oomph to push that resolution at anything more than interlaced 43hz mode. (typical for old-school setups)
 
I found a blip on this oddball site that shows a max resolution of 1280x1024, but not necessarily supporting the color depth that you are looking for. (Its in the middle column of the page under Ax6116).
 
The one took out of a friends pc only had 1mb of ram. (yes it was a very old pc)
 
Looks like it's time to try finding something else to yank a card out of...
