My 16 guage wire is not performing well over about 30 feet.
should i get 12 guage or 14?

can someone suggest a brand to get?
 
14 gauge will work fine.

12 gauge would be overkill and a bitch to hide unless you're going a really long distance and can run it through a wall/floor.

Home Depot for where.
 
I'm curious - what is the issue with the setup you have that points to the cable as the culprit?
