I have a megaworks 550thx setup. Lately when I have them on i start getting lots of static through the speakers. If I cut them off and on a few times it goes away. I'm thinking perhaps its the speaker or the remote for them as its going bad i believe. maybe it was just the speaker out on my laptop? anyone?

Make sure the connectors are secure. Also you dont want any of them sitting next to a power source as that can create static. If all else fails, you can get a DI with a ground switch and that should fix it all up.

what is a DI with a ground switch?

i did have the speakers plugged intoa ups. maybe that caused my problem too

A Direct Insert box with a ground switch...thats probobly your last option

UPS battery shouldnt cause a problem any more than plugging it into the wall. Make sure every power cord you are using has a ground pin though...the round one on 3 prong plugs

the megaworks plug doesn't have a ground pin. but the plug looks like a standard psu plug, and i have extra with the ground. should i just do that?

yea i would give that a shot. the buzz definitely sounds like a grounding issue on some front. make sure your computer is grounded as well. and the audio cable should be a balanced (grounded) cable. im guessing it is 1/8" connector...so make sure it has 2 rings around the part you plug into the computer.

if this all fails. make sure your audio card is connected correctly...

...one more thing...try the speakers with another source like an ipod or something and see if there is still the buzz. then you can isolate whether it is your computer or the speakers
