Okay so I got a bit of a complex issue, let me explain my setup.

I run multiple monitors and a TV through my pc. When I'm using my pc I have a speaker system connected to my pc and headphones that I use. When I go multi-monitor to watch something on my TV I set my audio default device to my TV in the playback devices window.The audio through the TV comes through just fine, but the speaker system I have connected to my TV doesn't. I have a 5 piece speaker system connected to the TV via the auxillary port on the sound system to the headphone jack on the back of my TV. So when I set my speakers system to Auxiliary mode Only 1 sound system speaker, the sub woofer and the TV speakers work.

How can I setup my system so I can get all my TV sound system speakers working when I want to switch over?

It sounds like you use 1 target for sound normally (speakers) and then you switch to the TV for some occasions. When you do that, the TV works, but now the speakers are silent. You want to have both targets active at the same time?

If that is the case. Starting with Windows Vista, Microsoft took away the ability to have multiple sound outputs enabled at the same time. For piracy purposes. However, there is a work around. If you enable "Stereo Mix" on Windows (under Record devices), you can have your computer loop the default sound output back into the computer. You then set Stereo Mix to "Playback Through This Device" to a second different device. This will allow you to have 2 separate outputs active at the same time.

If I'm totally off base from your question I do apologize :)
 
First, thank you for the response! While it would be nice to have both my pc speakers and the home theater sound at the same time that's not really what I'm after. I did, however, enable Stereo mix, but it created an echo effect, so there must be a slight delay between both devices.

What I'm after is when I choose to play the sound through the TV I want all the home theatre speakers to work. I change my sound from PC to TV by doing: Audio Devices>Playback tab>Right click on TV icon and select "set as default" The sound on the TV only comes out like 2.1. The TV speakers will play, one home theater speaker and the sub woofer will play. The other 3 speakers don't do anything.

Again, If I could have both the PC and the TV system speakers playing correctly that would be great, but at least I'd like to get the Home theater picking up as 5.1 so I can get that sound.

-PC Speaker system connected to PC via analog,
-TV connected to pc via HDMI
-TV Speaker system connected to TV via Auxiliary to Headphone jack
-Windows 8

I'm no audio guy for certain, and if I had to guess what the problem is it's that the sound system is hooked up from the AUX port to the headphone jack on the back of the TV. If that's the case, what cable should I be running to get all the speakers working? The only outputs on my home theater is S-video, component(Pb,Pr,Y,Video) and Auxiliary.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

What inputs do you have on the home theater system. Optical out from tv to home theater might be an option and should output 5.1.
 
This might be cost prohibitive but is an option to consider. I would look into a receiver that can pass the video signal even when the receiver is turned off. I know some Marantz receivers can. So when you want to use your PC speakers leave the receiver off so the computer uses your soundcard as the audio device and when you want to watch your TV turn the receiver on which activates hdmi as the primary audio device and power your 5.1 with the receiver out which will support all the audio formats that HDMI passes. I do this with headphones when my lady is in bed and when she's not I just hit the power button on the receiver and shake the house.
