Hi Guys,

I am unfamiliar with configuring hard drives so I'm here for some help!

Basically I had 2 drives, a WD Raptor 150GB drive and a WD 750GB drive. The OS was installed on the 750GB drive with all of my data on that drive as well. I had all my games installed on the Raptor drive.

I decided one day to move my OS (windows 7) onto the Raptor drive for faster load times, etc.. To do this I purchased another WD 750GB drive, I installed the drive and formated the partition to NTFS. When it was a bare drive I had the option of setting up a spanning drive so I would only have 1 drive letter and 1.5 TB of storage vs two drives of 750GB. I had to format the drive first so that I could move all my data to that drive and then wipe the drive that had the OS to install that on the Raptor drive.

After all of that I was ready to set up my two drives to spanning but when I right clicked on the partition spanning/mirrored/striped were all grayed out and I've tried reducing the size of the disk but then I can only extend the partition onto the unallocated storage.

What do I have to do to set up both drives under 1 drive letter and not have two separate drives?
 
I will go ahead and warn you against doing spanning on your drives. There is no way to remove a drive from the span without first backing up all the data and deleting the span. I say this from experience, as I am currently working on recovering data from a span that I accidentlly broke without have any backup.
 
How do you break a span? What other options are out there to get both drives as 1 partition besides RAID?

1. You can mount a drive as a folder on your c: or any other ntfs drive
2. You can use the libraries feature of windows
3. You can use a filesystem like flexraid, unRaid, SnapRAID ...

I also recommend against spanning arrays.
