It is somewhat unnerving to see spam at record levels and security vendors “salivating” over potential sales.

In the closing months of 2006, the volume of spam jumped enormously, according to e-mail filtering firm Postini, with an increase of 73 percent in just the three months leading up to December.

This is just getting out of hand...

The solution should be to shoot whoever these idiots are that actually OPEN and BUY FROM these SPAM emails... I mean seriosuly, how mentally incompetant must you be to fill these viral spammers' coffers??? THAT is the real problem -- morons.
 
The amount of spam I recieve has skyrocketed in the last couple weeks. Before I used to get five or six SPAMs a day but now I am getting 30 or more! Many of them have the same content so they must be from the same spammer.

I have always wondered how someone could possibly fall for these things. Who buy v1@g.rA @ In.$$aNe pRic.E$$? Maybe there is some poor elderly person out there who just doesn't know any better. Granted, sending SPAM email is very cheap so just one or to people a month can keep them in business.

People are desperate for good news. A few months ago I had a guy walk into my TV station with one of those "You've just won the Swiss Lottery! Just deposit this check and send $2,000 back. . . " letters. He had actually dialed the number to give out his account info before he had second thoughts and asked the cops about it. Then he walked down the street to the station to have me do a story on it. I asked him straight out - we see news articles and news stories on TV all the time about someone else falling for the nigerian scammers. . . why'd it take him so long to figure out something smelled here? The answer was kinda depressing. He didnt' have much money, and seeing that $10,000 check made him want to believe it was real so badly that he did.

Same thing with the spams selling v1@g rA at insane prices - people don't have much money, they want the viagra, and so they trick themselves into believing it.

It's not really any different than the "Colonel Barker's Magic Indian Elixer" crap they used to sell back in the 30's and 40's. People are basically gullible, especially if it's about something that they really want.

The real answer is to find these jerks that are sending the spam, and put them on an island with no internet forever.
 
Why aren't more mail server operators using SPF?

If the SPF checks good, it's very unlikely to be spam. If it's bad, well that's what Auto Delete is for.
 
I know that when I get spam the last thing I want is to buy what they are trying to sell you, if anything I HATE :mad: the product to the point I can't stand it like that viagra crap.
