on a friends computer i checked for updates and service pack 3 showed up on the list....i went home and checked on my computer for updates and there were no updates found..(no i dont already have sp3)...could this be because i have xp pro and he has xp home?

You either misread something, or your friend is using Windows 2000.

Belarc identifies some of my later downloads as SP3...these are the downloads that came after the initial installation of SP2, so it's either a glitch with Belarc and some other component readers or MS has started out on yet another upgrade. I started getting SP2 downloads long before the entire SP was ready, so it must be MS labeling system

all updates that MS rolls into a SP are IDed by that PS number. The updates SP2 had in it are IDed in add/remove as SP2 for example. MajorDomo had it.

Yea, MS lables their stuff based off of SP's. Anything after SP1 is pre-SP2. So anything post SP2 will probably show pre-SP3

Microsoft released windows XP SP3 a few days ago. Non of you watch the news? Only random people get to download it so the servers dont get over loaded.

I could of been mistaken and it could have been XP SP3 for windows office.

you must be taking about windows 2003 sp1...

It took MS 2 years to develope and perfect SP2, so I doubt you will be seeing a SP3 anytime soon, if ever, before Longhorn is released.

i dont know, the more i try to think the more confused i get ...heh such is life ...it might have been sp3 for xp office.. but then again who knows
