I'm having a couple of problems. Hopefully, someone here can enlighten me. I'm running Windows XP Professional w/SP2.

I cannot share my printer, nor create file shares.

When I attempt to share my printer, I get the following error:

Printer settings could not be saved. Operation could not be completed.

When I attempt to create a file share, I get the following error:

An error occurred while trying to share Drop. The Server service is not started. The shared resource was not created at this time.

So, the next logical step was to start the Server service. I get the following error:

Could not start the Server service on Local Computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.

After a rousing trip around Google, I came up with absolutely nothing. Apparently I'm not the only person to have a problem, but nobody has a solution...

Been there, done that... no help. :p

I've set all of the services to default (pretty much set default as they were).. I've tried ensuring the XP firewall was off (I'm behind a router anyway). I've done everything I can think of.

No, you haven't...

So, the next logical step was to start the Server service. I get the following error: Could not start the Server service on Local Computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.
Apparently not all your services are started. If server is not started, sharing no worky. From the link:
Server Automatic Local System
Stopping this service disconnects any open sessions with a remote computer.

Have you disabled services? Is server the only service not starting?

Server, as well as Computer Browser. Which makes sense, seeing as Computer Browser depends on Server.

There are no disabled services. Everything that's not Automatic, is Manual - per the default list.

I could have missed something...

Judging on what you had done prior, it appears that the install corrupted. (DUH!! Thank you Captain Obvious! "SHUTUP PEANUT!!!!")

Probably a fluke install.

I reinstalled, and it was working fine. However, now.. it's not working. Now, the folder shows as shared - but for some reason, OSX can't connect to it.

Grrrrr.

Well, if we've barked up a tree enough...
Ok, try to get really specific about your setup...

Your network:
Are you connected to a router, a server, or are you using multiple IP's from your ISP?
How is your DNS set up?
What kind of addressing...static or dynamic?
Subnetting?
Cable, DSL, dialup or "other"?
Can you ping one machine from the other?
You make it sound like it was working, and now it's not...install any new software? Any other changes?

Your computer:
Got the windows firewall turned on?
Got a password on the username you're using?

I guess that's all for now...try to give us as much information as possible.
