I have an onboard C-Media AC97, and the sound is horrible- As if the treble is set to the fullest. I tried playing with the equalizer, but that barely makes it better.

Sometimes the sound goes out in CSS, and it sounds like echoed and hollow.

I'm using the C-Media v5.12.1.50 (12/15/2005)

Any ideas? reinstalling it doesn't fix it.

The sound in unbearable.

Check the mixer and see if it has plain timbre controls like Bass and Treble maybe th treble got cranked. Some onboards don't sound very good. The best advice I could give you is get a decent PCI soundcard.;)

seems like my only PCI bus is acting up, so my sound blaster isn't working.

But, if it had been some sort of settings, when i uninstalled/reinstalled it, i'd imagine it'd be wiped to default.

lol @ your thread title.
rofl, i didnt even notice.

If you have to put it on it's side, i'm assumeing cpu upwards, why don't you check your cpu is securely placed. I'm guessing 90% sure that if you hold your cpu fan aganist your case it will boot up upright. I had aproblem where a computer i was fixing did that and that was the problem. What i learned if your drive like and idot with someone else's computer in the car after fixing it check to make sure everything is still mounted well.
