I was messing around with some ancient computers, and was swapping around sound cards.
I switched an AWE64 Gold with an AWE32, it asked for the cd, I put the AWE64 gold one in and it loaded a few missing driver parts from the disk. Then I went and played a few midis and it loaded the 64 Gold wavesynth software and played the midi like it sounded on the Gold.
I think I now know why Creative is so protective of giving out the software to their hardware and providing drivers only.
Like the box for my Live Platinum saying it can never be out of date thanks to Liveware, then the 5.1 comes out and my Live become out of date because of an eprom flash difference.
And no I am not a Creative Labs hater, I am currently totally satisfied by their Audigy II ZS. Just making observations
