I am currently using the onboard sound from my A7N8X-Dlx board. I was wondering if there would be any noticable difference if I put in a sound card like a Hercules DVD 7.1, I think thats the card I have laying here, will have to check the drivers on it.

Would I see a difference? I mean how 'good' is the sound of it compared to the sound from the onboard chip of this MB?

Currently using Plantronics P90s or whatever these headphones are :)

My actual speakers are Benwin Flatpanels, about to step up to Logitech Z-530s.

Well, he shouldn't go around spending money on a soundcard until he gets better speakers, don't you think?

Cheap, thats my budget. I like the appearance of the 530s, hated the look of the 620s. Cant find any 640s.

My sound card is a Muse 5.1 DVD

Cheap is a quality, not a quantity. What is your budget?

p.s. You mean you already have the soundcard laying around? For God's sake, man! Put it in and use your own ears to find out. I doubt that your speakers will reveal any difference, however.

Agreed.

Agreed again. :D

lol, ok. I was just thinking someone out there might have the two already compared just by coinscidence. Oh well.

But what do you not like about the 530s?

My budget on speakers is around $75 shipped. I want at least 5.1 and a good look/feel.

You've got soundstorm on there, find somewhere that'll get you some z-680's cheap... you'll save money from not buying a soundcard and get some half-decent speakers...

I ALREADY HAVE THE MUSE 5.1 SOUND CARD. I bought it about 3 years ago for my old PC, which is now my server. I have been using the onboard sound, which is SoundStorm, but its not really; or at least according to Asus. So I thought the actual sound card might sound better than the onboard one.

Yes, 680s would be nice, but I can't find anywhere that doesn't want over $100 for them.
