Iam been using onboard sound for some time and i think it sounds flat.Iam looking for a soundcard that will give me surround sound thru good stereo headphones.iam using vista32.
what should i get?

do i have to install the bloated software to get the surround sound working or do the bare mim drivers work?

Do some googling, the X-Fi's headphone-algorithm is above the rest
(and the only soundchip that rally does EAX +2.0 without issues)

Oh yeah, this is for gaming.... duhhhh. I also vote for the Prelude X-Fi for gaming.

Auzentech Prelude is the best sound card, especially for gaming.

Agree. Good price and excelent features.
If you want something more future ready for both gaming and movie watching, you may want to look into the upcomming Auzentech HomeTheater HD. It will support DTS-MA and TrueHD audio through PowerDVD. But it is stilll a couple of weeks from being released.

I currently have the auzentech x-fi forte and sound is better than my previous xonar d2x for gaming
