Was thinking of getting rid of my Recon3D and getting Z (or Zx). But then, as the card costs same as newest headset, it brings question if, for just single player gaming, maybe Vent for MMO, and casual listening to mp3s, getting dedicated soundcard is really good idea.

Already have Aurvana's Live, and won't pay more for headphones... never understood the reason of paying over $300 for headphones (though I understand people who have such need).

WIll the Rage3D quality be close enough to Aurvana Live+Zx, or should I not bother?
 
The Recon3D is fine for single player games, TS/Vent and MMOs. For music listening, you could always just get an FiiO D3 (cheap DAC) or something to output to an amp, or receiver you have laying around then to speakers (or more convoluted, back to your headphones...) If you can't understand paying $300 for headphones, I don't see why you can make sense of upgrading your sound card again so soon without also upgrading your headset to notice a difference between cards. You'll get little benefit - especially with MP3 source material for casual listening. The ears quickly adapt and play tricks on our minds with what sounds "right"; in this case if the Recon3D doesn't sound like wet duck farts to you, it's likely you've just caught the upgraditis bug.
 
Farkle is correct.

You just said you weren't going to upgrade from your current headphones, which suggests that you're satisfied with your current audio setup. In which case, there's no point in "upgrading" the sound card.
