What's the difference between the:

Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeMusic

and

Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme?

Do they both actually exist?

I have heard of a X-fi Xtreme music. Never just a X-fi xtreme. Sounds like a typo.:D

Simple answer is NO! There's always something after "Xtreme" i.e. Music, Gamer, Audio or etc......

Ah ok, thanks. So what's the difference between the difference Xtreme cards? :)

X-Fi Elite Pro is the top. It has a Break Box I/O controller, 64MB of X-RAM and better DACs. It ships with Recording software as well.

2 X-Fi Fatality Models are next and one ships with a 5.25" I/O drive Bay and the other, X-Fi Fatal1ty Pro Gamer, without. These have regular X-Fi DACs and 64MB of RAM.

X-Fi Platinum is the first of the None X-RAM models. It and the rest ships with a 2MB buffer and the same I/O Drive as the Fatal1ty Model.

X-Fi Xtreme Music is the same as the Platinum but ships without an I/O Drive. It can be upgraded as I did with mine. This card is not being produced any longer. There are very few of them left on the market.

X-Fi Xtreme Gamer is basically the same as the Xtreme Music but can't be upgraded with an I/O Drive Bay. But it has better Pin-Out support for Case or front panel I/O connections.

X-Fi Xtreme Audio seems to have less X-Fi Hardware and uses CPU acceleration instead HW like the others.

For more detailed differences go to Creative's site.

What's the I/O drive for? I can't see from the pictures...

You have two types of I/O drives, internal and external. The External one is more expensive and its the one that ships with the X-Fi Elite Pro. The internal one ships with the Platinum and Fatality X-Fi's. I updated my Xtreme Music with an internal I/O Drive bay for Headphone and connecting my Guitar right on the front of the computer. I've not had it that long and I'm trying to figure out how I got along without it. Read the features for details?

It appears that the drive bay is only advantagious (spelling?) if one wishes to record music and have easier access to the input jacks that would be on the soundcard anyway?
I went to creatives website and this is the impression that I got.
Does that near enough sum it up?

So the Xtremegamer has the same features as the xtrememusic but is cheaper and finally has a front headphone plug? Why is it a much smaller card then?

It's smaller because all of the circuitry, Connectors and etc. for compatibility for both of the I/O drives takes that space. Remove that stuff and the Xtreme Gamer is what you end up with. Yes, the Xtreme Gamer and the Xtreme Audio version has an Easy Pin out for the Case I/O ports.

Yes! It just makes the card more versatile:)
