My Abit MAX3 came with this type of sound chip Audio AC'92 v2.2. Can anyone tell me how good it is and reccoment mend me some speakers that will go good with this? Thanks
 
Well according to the HardOCP review, Kyle mentions that some of the sound reproduction was lacking. However, the performance on gaming was acceptable.

Actually it is AC 97 and that is the CODEC. I believe that your sound chip is the VIA VT8237. From what I have read, most people are normally pleased with that solution. Unless, ABIT did not implement it well. Nonetheless, if you are planning on doing serious gaming, it would be good to look into a sound card. If not, you will have to see if it sounds good to you.

I don't use speakers, but check out Logitech's line of speakers. From what I understand, all their speakers (low to high range) are good for the money.
 
I have the exact same mobo and a regular Audigy blows the sound quality of that onboard crap out of the water. What's worse is when you try to overclock just a MHz over stock, you get the worst static ever heard.

Put your money to a dedicated sound card first, then look at speakers.

Well, my sound isn't that great, but I have 6.1 surround with no problems to speak of.
 
The IC7-MAX3 uses the traditional Realtek ALC650 for a CODEC.
The VT8327 is a southbridge not a CODEC from VIA, and this motherboard uses the ICH5(R) from Intel instead.
The ALC650 should sound fine (just as good if not better than an Audigy) through the digital out. Through the analog output, it probably sounds somewhat worse.

We'd have to get a new testing gerbil to measure bass distortion.
 
I honestly don't know how people can stand onboard sound cause I usually can't. There are a lot of good, but cheap options like the Chaintech AV-710. Well worth the investment IMO.
 
Probably has something to do with the fact that the analog quality of onboard sound varies depending on the CODEC, the motherboard and the price of beer in Hungary.

It's my birthday today. I think I'll go pick one up from Mike's Aquarium Pet Store down the street.
