Sound while ripping

I recently decided to take my entire cd collection and put it onto my computer using Windows Media Player 10 ripping, while doing this however my sound becomes unlistenable i can hear music its distorted why is this and can i fix it... its not terrible because it only happens while im ripping cds.

Probably coz your CPU is doing the heavy task of encoding your CDs so playing WMA/WMPs in the background will result in glitches.
