Hi everyone,

In Windows Vista, one of the features I've missed most in my sound card drivers for the Audigy 2 ZS is a little feature called Stereo Surround. It basically upmixes anything played over stereo to all my other speakers (stereo to 5.1).

Anyways, since Creative doesn't look like they will be releasing an updated driver with this feature (oooh boy, don't get me on that subject), are there any 3rd party programs that do something similar? Any kind of software that can upmix stereo to 5.1? I know there are plugins for media players to do this but I was hoping for something that does it system-wide.

I searched google many times, but found no such software. I did find a post made by Squeezee though that said:

The new vista audio model does provide built-in effects such as expanding stereo to 5.1 however its only available by default with certain drivers...

So I'd think that it's a built-in feature that certain drivers could access, wouldn't it be possible to find software out there that does it?

-Thanks for your help guys!

What speakers are you using? I was just wondering because some of them can upmix a stereo signal to surround by themselves.

My speakers do have a switch to enable stereo upmixing, which sounds pretty nice but that's kind of impractical the be switching it off from time to time - And if I want to let's say listen to music and play a game that has support for 5.1 sound (as most games do) I'd have to switch upmixing off.

What Stereo Surround would do, because it's software, is upmix anything that is stereo only but it would leave 5.1 sound untouched, so I could still have full surround sound and stereo that fills my speakers.

I have heard Winamp has the ability to do this. But is there any plugin for Windows Media player that does this? Not even one piece of software for Windows that will upmix all stereo sound to 5.1? I'm desperate here.
