Ive recently had an issue with sound stuttering. Its very difficult to trace. It will do it with facebook message sounds, Youtube videos will go in and out of it. its incredibly annoying. Pandora doesnt seem to do this. I was worried it was the Sound card/headset.
 
I've not seen a faulty chipset cause stuttering. Chipset issues typically result in low/no audio or crackling/static. Stuttering is typically maxed cpu or driver/player issues.
