So i bought some nice speakers finally and decided that i should look at whether or not i am getting the best signal possible. Right now i have my audio (ripped cd tracks) coming from my computer which has onboard "Realtek ALC658 Codec". It says that it has 95dB SNR and thats about all that it says besides "high quality". Is this as good as if i were to buy a stand alone dvd player (or cd-player)?

Be more specific. What speakers did you get? What cd or dvd player are you talking about?

I don't think many would consider onboard to be good sound quality and there are certainly better sounding CD players and soundcards.
