SOUND PROBlEMS!!! With Aim etc.

My aim never makes sounds when I IM anybody and when I play music in media player it all goes red font and doens't work, I tried reinstalling my media player, NOTHING WORKS.. Help??

Make sure you have the latest drivers for your soundcard. Also, try going to Control Panel > Sounds and go to all the different tabs and make sure your sound card is selected.

Start > Programs > Accesories > Entertainment > Volume Control
(or double click the little speaker in the System Tray if present)

Does it show a soundcard? Like does it say Intel Integrated Audio, Crystal Media, Sound Blaster, etc??

Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Sound, Video, Game Controllers
(or right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware ? Device Manager)

See anything with an exclamation point or something next to it?

perhaps your aim doesn't make any sounds cause your sounds in AIM are turned off..

go to my aim -> preferences -> IM/CHAT -> sounds

i think thats the path anyways. i don't use aim. i use trillian.

Not sound problem anymore, I downloaded winamp and I still hear all my music on it.. Just windows media player is messed up big time, I reinstalled it, got a newer version, still no go, I got a windows xp error that said my files have been overwritten, is there a way to fix this?

Well you could try just running a different app than WMP10. Since it's going red I'd say its a codec of some sort, but winamp works. I'd still try to reinstall some codecs, or do a full uninstall of WMP and then try again.

oh duh!.. i had this problem before..

uninstall all your audio codec. legacy and otherwise. then reinstall them and you should be good to go.
